  • Can your packaging be recycled

All our packaging now contains on-pack recycling logos to help you identify which parts you can recycle and which are not currently recycled. Our cardboard cartons are widely recycled by local councils as part of their kerbside collection schemes. These are often turned into more cardboard, although some councils compost the cartons instead. At the moment, our plastic materials, such as the inner bags and wrappers for Weetabix biscuits are not recycled by many local councils. We are however, working closely with a number of organisations and our suppliers to improve the recycling of these materials.

You can find out more about recycling in your area by visiting recyclenow which provides useful information to help you recycle your packaging and explains how on-pack recycling logos work.

  • Do any of your products contain GMOs

The Weetabix Food Company do not use genetically modified ingredients, derivatives or processing aids in any of our breakfast cereals and cereal bars.

  • What are your packaging materials made of

Most of our cartons are made from card containing 100% recycled paper fibres while some contain at least 90% recycled fibres. Packaging in direct contact with food is made from a variety of different plastic films depending on the product and the required level of protection required to keep it fresh. These are always made from non-recycled materials.

  • Do any of your products contain peanuts or other nuts

Yes, some do and some are made in factories where other products containing nuts are made. Weetabix Minis - Fruit & Nut and new Weetabix Minis - Caramel & Nut contain peanut.

Many of our products are made in nut free environments.

We offer a nut list service to our UK and Republic of Ireland consumers and, upon request, can keep you up to date with nut status issues as things change, for example, when new products are introduced. If you would like to receive a copy of the list and register for updates please use the enquiry form to contact our Consumer Services Department.

  • Does Ready brek have to be cooked

Ready brek can be mixed with cold milk or water and eaten straight away. We would, however, recommend you follow the preparation instructions printed on the pack. The product may not thicken using cold liquid. Once prepared, Ready brek should be eaten straight away.

Click here to see the Ready brek product range.

  • From what age can I give my child Weetabix, Ready brek or Oatibix

Weetabix, Ready brek and Oatibix are not suitable for infants under six months, and are not produced specifically for infants or young children.

The Department of Health recommends you use mashed up family foods when possible. They do, of course, specify that cow's milk is not suitable until 12 months and sugar and salt are not to be added. Ready brek Original contains no added sugar or salt. Weetabix and Oatibix are low in sugar.  Each Weetabix biscuit has less than 1g of sugar and only contains 0.125g of salt (1 Weetabix = approx. 19g).  Each  Oatibix biscuit has less than 1g of sugar and contains  0.09g of salt (1 Oatibix = approx. 24g). Your child will probably eat less than one full Weetabix or Oatibix to begin with.  If given once weaning has been established, they should be mixed with the child's usual milk.

If you have any questions about feeding your child, please ask your midwife, health visitor or GP.

You may also like to visit the Department of Health website for advice on weaning your baby onto solid foods.

  • What is the maximum number of Weetabix I can eat every day

The key to a healthy diet is balance. No one food provides all the nutrients (food components) you need for health. Therefore, by eating a variety of foods in appropriate amounts you can achieve the balance you need.

Weetabix is an ideal food from a healthy eating point of view as it is low in fat, high in fibre and low in sugar. It provides an excellent breakfast and an ideal snack any time of the day, including bedtime. However, balance is the key, and you can have too much of a good thing.  Weetabix is fortified with certain vitamins and minerals and if eaten to excess, then you could be taking in too much of these nutrients.

We would recommend that an adult eats no more than four (4) Weetabix biscuits per day. Taking this amount will leave room for you to eat other foods and have some variety in your diet.

For advice regarding children's intake, please contact your health visitor or GP.

  • What is wholegrain

Whole grains are cereal grains such as wheat and oats that contain literally the whole of the grain. The grain consists of three parts: the bran (fibre containing outer layer, the endosperm (starchy middle layer) and the germ (nutrient rich inner layer).

All the breakfast cereals of the Weetabix Food Company are made with natural wholegrains. These wholegrains provide a valuable source of essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals ensuring that you get the nutritional value of every part of the grain.

See our leaflet - The Goodness of Wholegrain.

  • Which of your products contain Folic Acid

Folic acid is important for normal cell development and healthy blood. In pregnancy, if levels of folate are low at the time of conception and during the first three months of pregnancy, it can lead to an increased risk of neural tube defects in the foetus.

Good sources of folate include fortified breakfast cereals, leafy green vegetables and orange juice.

Click here to see a list of our products and check their Folic Acid content.

  • Why do you add salt and sugar to your cereals

Salt and sugar are added to cereals to aid cooking, texture and taste. The salt and sugar levels of our cereals are regularly monitored to make sure only the minimum amounts are used to give the maximum effect.

A two biscuit serving of Weetabix contains one twentieth of a teaspoon of salt (0.24g), 4% of the FSA's suggested daily salt intake.
Each Weetabix contains one fortieth of a teaspoon of salt (0.12g), 2% of the FSA's suggested daily salt intake.
A two biscuit serving of Weetabix contains less than half a teaspoon of sugar (1.7g).
Each Weetabix contains less than a fifth of a teaspoon of sugar (0.9g).

Ready brek Original contains no added salt or sugar.

  • Why fortify cereals

Vitamins and minerals are needed to regulate body processes and maintain health. Most of the Weetabix range of breakfast cereals are fortified with certain key vitamins and iron.
